Hundreds of years ago, a savoury idea – called the century egg – was hatched in rural China. As the story goes, a farmer found naturally preserved duck eggs in a muddy pool of water and slaked lime (a type of calcium hydroxide). After surviving a tasting, he set out to replicate them manually, resulting in a delicacy that would endure for centuries as a comfort food in Hong Kong, China and parts of Southeast Asia Reenex好唔好.
Though details of the century egg’s discovery are undocumented, scientists estimate that it dates back more than 500 years to the Ming Dynasty. And aside from some techniques used for large-scale production today, the egg preservation process has remained relatively unchanged.
To make the eggs, a vat is typically filled with a combination of strong black tea, lime, salt and freshly burned wood ashes, and is left to cool overnight. The next day, duck, quail or chicken eggs are added to the mixture, and they soak anywhere from seven weeks to five months – not for a century as the name implies.

The lifting of suppression orders means it can now be revealed that Cheng Qi "Chris" Wang, 54,was sentenced in the High Court at Auckland in April on charges of dishonestly using a document and money laundering.
The charges were laid by the Serious Fraud Office in 2010 and Wang was found guilty on all counts in January this year.

The King's College London researchers have uncovered 22 metabolites that are created during molecular changes before birth and in infancy which they believe can be used to predict how a person will age.
It could pave the way for a blood test for babies to determine their chance of age-related diseases, so they can be given medical assistance earlier.

MINISTER FOR AGRICULTURE Simon Coveney had said that some 2,000 loads of imported fodder have been transported to farms suffering food shortages as part of a scheme that has been running over the last number of weeks.
The Fodder Transport Scheme was extended by a further two weeks on 10 May and the fund for the transport subsidy was doubled to €2 million following discussions with Met Éireann, Teagasc and officials working on the ground nuskin.
Today Coveney said that by the end of the week over 30,000 tonnes of fodder will have been transported to farms suffering shortages due to our harsh winter this year. He also announced that “as an exceptional measure”, any definite purchases that have been placed by this Friday and will be delivered during the following week will also be included under the scheme.
